Trama:

Questo libro mi ha sorpreso moltissimo: leggendo la trama mi aspettavo un libro leggero, romantico che prendeva le mosse da Romeo e Giulietta. Invece ho letto un libro più profondo e complesso: Hailey Alcaraz va oltre la semplice ispirazione a Romeo e Giulietta (non si può esattamente parlare di un retelling visto che i riferimenti sono generici) con la quale inizia il libro. Rosa By Any Other Name unisce il tema ancestrale degli amanti avversi alle stelle di Romeo e Giulietta con le tematica della segregazione e del razzismo nella storia statunitense, in questo caso rivolti verso la comunità messicano-americana.

Non sono un'amante dei libri in prima persona, ma ci sono delle eccezioni e questo libro è una di quelle grazie a Rosa, protagonista e narratrice. Lei è stupenda: racchiude in sé sfide, insicurezze, paure, sogni, desideri... e tutto è scritto e descritto benissimo e questo la rende reale, viva, interessante, tridimensionale. Lei muove la storia e ci trascina dentro il lettore, tenendolo (tenendomi) incollata alle pagine.

La storia è così ben narrata che trovo sarebbe un ottimo libro da far leggere a scuola per proporre una riflessione sui temi più forti (e molto vicini alla nostra contemporaneità) proposti in alternativa a libri più tradizionali e generalmente ritenuti più noiosi.

Spero proprio che questo libro abbia successo e che sia letto, perché se lo merita e mi piacerebbe moltissimo che venisse tradotto anche in italiano.
