Questo libro mi ha decisamente sorpresa: il motivo principale per cui mi intrigava è l'idea che la persona scomparsa abbia lasciato degli indizi per ritrovarla, trovo che sia una costruzione narrativa complessa da gestire ma che mi affascina sempre.

Devo dire però che inizialmente l'ho letto in maniera abbastanza passiva perché l'introduzione è un po' lenta e serve più che altro a presentare i personaggi e la situazione, la parte più thriller arriva un po' dopo. Quando però arriva, verso il 30% del libro, mi sono trovata catturata dalla situazione e completamente immersa nel mistero e nella ricerca. Anche se peso di essere migliorata, credo sempre di essere una pessima investigatrice perché non risolvo mai davvero i casi, intuisco qualcosa e riesco a mettere insieme alcuni elementi ma non ho mai il quadro completo. Poi però ci ripenso e mi piace non riuscire a risolvere il mistero, la lettura così è più stimolante e divertente e sono contenta che anche con In Case I Go Missing sia andata così e anche in questo caso è sicuramente merito dell'autrice.

Una particolarità di questo libro penso che siano i personaggi e l'amicizia descritta: infatti direi che ci troviamo a che fare con dei personaggi grigi, in particolare la voce narrante Fenny e l'amica scomparsa Sarah Vincenty, ma anche le dinamiche relazionali tra quasi tutti i personaggi sono un po' problematiche e quasi disturbanti ma è tutto coerente con l'atmosfera del libro.

Come dice la presentazione ufficiale del libro, se vi è piaciuto Come uccidono le brave ragazze vi consiglio di dare un'opportunità anche a questo libro.

In definitiva, dal mio punto di vista questo è un ottimo debutto dal mio e leggerò sicuramente altro di questa autrice!
